Territorio Tarón presents its estate wines: Cepas Centenarias 2020 and Finca Zabaleta 2019

At Territorio Tarón, our passion for wine is reflected in every bottle and these two oenological gems that we present today stand out for their exceptional origin and quality. Two estate wines that guarantee the purest expression of their vineyards and their environment: Finca Zabaleta 2019 and the new vintage of Cepas Centenarias 2020.

The new treasure: Finca Zabaleta 2019

This estate wine is named after its place of origin. Planted in 1988, Finca Zabaleta is a vineyard of just over two hectares, located in Castilseco, at an altitude of 560 metres above sea level. It is a spectacular vineyard with a very good spatial layout. Its geographical location makes it possible to obtain a wine with very good acidity and great ageing potential.

Finca Zabaleta 2019 is made from grapes selected to capture the essence of this Tempranillo vineyard, which has a yield of around 5,000 kilos per hectare. Of this vintage, 4,178 bottles were produced.

Finca Zabaleta 2019 was harvested on 12 October 2019, in trailers with a capacity of 2,500 kilograms. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels before being aged for a further 24 months in the bottle.

Deep cherry red in colour. The nose is dominated by fruity sensations, with hints of red fruits and small wild berries that add freshness. The ageing notes are subtly accompanied by hints of vanilla, spices and light smoked notes in the background that add complexity. The palate is delicate and harmonious with a well-integrated acidity that enhances its freshness. A soft tannin makes the wine silky and elegant, where red fruit again predominates with light notes of well-integrated ageing. It has a long and fruity finish.

Cepas Centenarias 2020: renewed tradition

The new vintage of our estate wine Cepas Centenarias 2020 comes from the oldest vineyards in Territorio Tarón. They were planted in 1915 in El Monte, in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level. With this wine, we seek to pay tribute to our great-grandparents and grandparents, who were already involved in viticulture and who have passed on to us a way of doing things that we want to capture.

The centenary vineyards of El Monte have a controlled yield of 3000 kilos per hectare and a very important accumulation of wood, where the plant keeps all the reserves. Year after year, they give us grapes of excellent quality and unique personality to produce this 100% Tempranillo wine that is distinguished by its elegance and depth.

The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes of 15 kilograms and the grapes or parts of bunches that did not meet the profile required to make the wine are eliminated from a selection table. The grapes are specially selected to form part of Tarón Cepas Centenarias.

After an ageing of 24 months in French oak and a rest in bottle of at least 18 months, Cepas Centenarias 2020 is now released to the market to offer a unique sensory experience, combining fruity and spicy notes with a silky structure and a persistent finish.

It stands out for its reddish colour with violet tones and high robe. Sensations of red fruits, liqueur bonbon, chestnut, spices. In the mouth we find a wine with a very good structure and acidity, fresh and with a present and round tannin. The finish is long. It has ageing potential and a persistent, ample and elegant aftertaste.
