The company Garfe, has presented this morning, 12th August, the tenth edition of the Bodegas Tarón Pelota Tournament. The tournament will consist of a total of 5 matches, composed of 6 pairs distributed in quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

The press conference was held at the Bar La Tavina Restaurant in the emblematic Laurel Street in Logroño.

Gonzalo Salazar, manager of Bodegas Tarón, said he was “proud” to celebrate this year’s tenth edition of a very special tournament because “it highlights the value of a key sport for our towns and villages and a fundamental element such as fronton”.

He also wanted to highlight the trajectory of the tournament: “The tournament has a very nice list of winners, with illustrious names that show that it is a sporting event that interests sportsmen and women and the public”.

David Garrido, head of Garfe, the company that organises the tournament, thanked Bodegas Tarón for its support for fronton in the villages. He assures that it is a demanding tournament in which “the pelotaris face very different frontons”. Garrido said that “the final is played in a pelota temple like the Adarraga, which is a very nice incentive”.

Victor Esteban and Diego Iturriaga, pelotaris participating in this edition, have celebrated the fact that a tournament like this is still being held. Esteban recognises that “it is a very nice tournament” and Iturriaga assures that “there is a very good level” and insists that he is “really looking forward to playing”.

This year, the first match of the quarter-finals of the tournament took place on 6 August in the town of Tirgo. The match pitted Prado and Merino II against Elizalde and Bergera. The latter pair won the first quarter-final by a tight 22-18 scoreline.

With this result, Elizalde and Bergera will face the pair formed by Victor and Cuairán in the semi-final match. The match will take place on 24 August at 6 p.m. at the Sajazarra fronton court.

The grand final will be held on 14 September at the Adarraga fronton court in Logroño.
