Bodegas Tarón, official wine of the 2025 International Journalism Awards
10/11/2025Following the resounding success of the first two editions, Bodegas Tarón presents the Third First Wine Cycling Tour. A sporting and charitable event that will feature prestigious figures from the world of cycling, while paying a well-deserved tribute to its winegrowers.
This sporting event, which will take place on Saturday, 1 November, will be attended by professional cyclists and great legends. Fans who participate will form a peloton alongside prestigious athletes such as Claudio Chiappucci and Iban Mayo. Other big names in cycling who have accompanied us in previous editions will also be returning, such as Ángel Arroyo, David López, Juanjo Cobo, Ramontxu González Arrieta and Joane Somarriba.
The details of this third march were presented today at a press conference attended by Ángel Samaniego and Gonzalo Salazar de Gurendes, president and manager of Bodegas Tarón, respectively. As they explained, this 56-kilometre march will pass through the beautiful landscapes of Territorio Tarón and pay tribute to the winegrowers who are part of this cooperative by offering them the first wine of the 2025 harvest.

The president of the winery, Ángel Samaniego, recalled that ‘the main objective of this initiative is to pay tribute to the cooperative’s winegrowers; therefore, the group will make a brief stop in each village to give them a bottle of the first wine from their village in this 2025 harvest’.
Samaniego added: The individuals who will receive this small tribute have been chosen for dedicating their entire lives to cultivating vineyards, demonstrating their love for the land, their people, and responsible vineyard cultivation. It is thanks to their work that we have been able to get to where we are today and produce the wines we make.
The names of the honoured winegrowers will be announced shortly, before the march takes place.
For his part, the manager of Bodegas Tarón has detailed the route of this march, which will depart at 9 a.m. from Bodegas Tarón and then continue through Sajazarra, Cellorigo (the most difficult part for cyclists, reaching an altitude of 750 metres), Villaseca, Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Herramélluri, Villalobar, Castañares, Casalarreina, Tirgo and ending at Bodegas Tarón in Tirgo. This makes a total of 56 kilometres.

For Multiple Sclerosis
As in the two previous editions, this third cycling event will have a strong charitable focus, as the proceeds from registration fees will go to people affected by multiple sclerosis. This aid will be channelled through ARDEM (Rioja Multiple Sclerosis Association) and ASBEM Miranda (Burgos Multiple Sclerosis Association).

Registrations
Registration, at a cost of €25, is now open and can be completed via the RocktheSport platform.
All proceeds will go towards the charitable causes mentioned above. In this regard, it is worth noting that last year more than €5,000 was raised for childhood cancer research through the El Sueño de Vicky Foundation.
The event is non-competitive and the entire peloton will ride together throughout the entire route. It is designed for road bikes and is open only to those over 18 years of age.
Bodegas Tarón will offer solid and liquid refreshments halfway through the route to help participants recharge their batteries. Likewise, at the end of the walk, there will be a party with music and a delicious tasting of local products at the winery, located in Tirgo.
