11/08/2023The prestigious publication Guía Peñín 2024 recognises the work of Bodegas Tarón with its evaluations. Specifically, this influential guide has awarded more than 90 points to three of its wines: Tarón Cepas Centenarias 2018 (91 points), Tarón 2016 Reserva (91 points) and Tarón Tempranillo Blanco 2021 Crianza (90 points).
With 91 points, Tarón Cepas Centenarias 2018 expresses a red wine of dark cherry colour with garnet rim; its aroma shows ripe fruit, woodwork, tobacco and sweet spices, being spicy in the mouth with ripe tannins and long. This is a 100% Tempranillo wine made from grapes grown on hundred-year-old vines that produce grapes of exceptional quality. The vineyards are located in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, in the area of El Monte, in Rioja Alta, at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level.
With the same points, 91, is Tarón Reserva 2016, described as a wine 90% tempranillo and 10% mazuelo with a very intense cherry colour. With a very toasted aroma, roasted, aromatic coffee, powerful and ripe fruit, in the mouth it is smoky, persistent and with ripe tannins. Tarón Reserva 2016 comes from vines over 50 years old spread over the four villages of Territorio Tarón: Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Sajazarra, Tirgo and Villaseca. It is a wine that expresses the essence of this area of Rioja Alta and the wisdom of several generations of winegrowers who make up this cooperative.
Finally, with 90 points, the Peñín Guide describes Tarón Tempranillo Blanco 2021 Crianza as a bright yellow wine, with aromas of creamy oak, ripe fruit, spices and tropical notes. On the palate it is oily, structured, long, toasty and with a fine bitterness. Tarón Tempranillo Blanco is machine harvested in the early morning to take advantage of the cooler hours of the day. This wine comes from a relatively new and unique variety in the world, a natural genetic mutation from a single shoot of a Tempranillo Tinto vine, located in 1988 in an old vineyard in the Rioja.
The Peñín Guide is the most comprehensive Spanish wine handbook in the world with more than 10,000 tastings each year. It has editions in Spanish, English, German and Chinese, and is the most widely used tool for amateurs and professionals to make purchasing decisions on Spanish wine.
