Bodegas Tarón presented the 𝐈 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐨, a day to celebrate the end of the grape harvest by paying tribute to the people who make it possible, its winegrowers. This ride will bring together active professional cyclists, such as Sheyla Gutiérrez; legends, such as Peio Ruiz Cabestany; as well as numerous amateurs to enjoy a meeting of sport, emotion and solidarity on a route through the four villages of Territorio Tarón: Tirgo, Sajazarra, Villaseca and Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón.
To present this event, the press conference was attended by Ángel Samaniego, president of Bodegas Tarón; Gonzalo Salazar de Gurendes, manager of Bodegas Tarón and Juan Ramón Calvo, representative of the VencELA association, to which the proceeds will be donated.
As explained by the manager of Bodegas Tarón, Gonzalo Salazar de Gurendes, this Marcha Ciclista del Primer Vino has already confirmed several luxury cyclists, professionals and legends of the sport, such as the aforementioned Sheyla Gutiérrez, active professional cyclist in the Movistar Team; Peio Ruiz Cabestany, charismatic rider with victories in the Vuelta and the Tour; Ángel Arroyo, rider of the 80s and who celebrates 40 years since his second place in the general classification of the 1983 Tour de France winning the Puy de Dome stage and ; Patxi Vila, professional cyclist in teams such as Lampre or Banesto, and Movistar’s Performance Director, and David López, professional cyclist until 2018 in teams such as Movistar or Sky, among others.
These professionals will join the rest of the amateurs, up to a total of 150, who want to spend an entertaining morning enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Territorio Tarón at this time of the year. This is a fun, non-competitive walk, in which there will be no trophies or classifications.
The route will start at 9 o’clock in the morning from Bodegas Tarón and will then continue through Sajazarra, Cellorigo (the most difficult part of the route, which will reach an altitude of 750 metres), Villaseca, Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Herramelluri, Villalobar, Castañares, Casalarreina, Tirgo and the end of the march at Bodegas Tarón. This makes a total of 56 kilometres.
The winery’s president, Ángel Samaniego, recalled that the main objective of this initiative is to pay tribute to the cooperative’s winegrowers; therefore, the group will make a brief stop in each town to give them a bottle of the first wine from their village in this 2023 vintage.
“The five people who will receive this small tribute have been chosen for their lifelong dedication to vine cultivation, demonstrating their love for the land, for their people and for responsible vine cultivation. Because it is thanks to their work that we have been able to get this far and make the wines we make today”.
The people chosen are:
- In Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón: José Leiva and Ramón Cárdenas.
- In Sajazarra: Rosario Capellán.
- In Villaseca: Pablo Fernández de Valderrama.
- In Tirgo: Manuel Elizondo.
At the end of the cycle ride, all participants and anyone who wants to come along will be able to enjoy a small celebration at Bodegas Tarón with music and tastings.
