Territorio Tarón 2019 scores 95 points at the IWSC wine competition, one of the most influential in the world.
29/05/2026The new vintage of Tarón Cepas Centenarias 2022 is now available. A very special wine that pays tribute to those who dedicated their lives to viticulture and captures the essence of one of the most unique vineyards in Rioja Alta.
Ever since its first vintage, in 2010, Tarón Cepas Centenarias has been much more than just a wine. It is a tribute to the generations that came before us, to the men and women who planted these vines over a century ago and tended them with hard work, dedication and respect for the land.
“It is a gem of the wine-making world. Our aim with this wine is to pay tribute to our elders, who planted these vineyards, tended them and cherished them. It is thanks to them that we are able to enjoy these exceptional vines today,” explains Laura Manzanos, winemaker at Bodegas Tarón.
A century-old vineyard that defies the passage of time
Tarón Cepas Centenarias comes from a vineyard planted over 100 years ago in the El Monte area, in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, at an altitude of 600 metres.
At first glance, these vines reveal the passage of time in their gnarled trunks, shaped by decades of wind, cold, heat and harvests. However, their true strength lies underground.
“Their root system extends deep into the ground, enabling them to withstand harsh weather conditions and the challenges of each harvest. These are vines that have learnt to survive and adapt year after year,” says Manzanos.
The vineyard is situated on sandy soil, with large stones on the surface and excellent aeration. These conditions have encouraged the development of deep roots and a very limited yield of just 3,000 kilos per hectare.

Low yields are precisely one of the keys to its quality. The vines produce small bunches of very concentrated, fine-grained grapes, which lend the wine extraordinary aromatic intensity, balance and complexity.
Only around 3,000 bottles are produced each year.

A painstaking process
Tarón Cepas Centenarias 2022 is made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes grown in this century-old vineyard.
The grapes are harvested by hand into 15-kilo crates to preserve their integrity. Once at the winery, the bunches are passed through a rigorous sorting table where any grapes that do not meet the wine’s exacting quality standards are discarded.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. During this process, daily bâtonnage is carried out, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels.
The wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barrels. It is then left to mature for at least a further 18 months in the bottle, under controlled temperature and humidity conditions, before being released onto the market.
Intensity, elegance and depth
The new vintage has a very deep picota cherry colour, with good depth and violet highlights that reveal its youth and concentration.
On the nose, it stands out for its aromatic intensity and the purity of the ripe black and red fruit, with notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum. Ageing in French oak adds complexity through hints of cocoa, sweet spices, vanilla, cedar and subtle, perfectly integrated toasted notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, enveloping and voluminous. The fruit is underpinned by a firm, balanced structure, with abundant yet perfectly polished tannins. The ripe fruit and oak develop harmoniously, resulting in a deep, elegant wine with excellent ageing potential.
It has a long, lingering and expressive finish, leaving hints of ripe fruit, spices and delicate toasted notes.
A tribute to the history of Rioja Alta
Tarón Cepas Centenarias 2022 represents the link between the past and the future. A wine born from a vineyard that has endured for over a century and continues to produce grapes of extraordinary quality.
A legacy that speaks of the land, of generations of winegrowers, and of an approach to wine based on respect for the land and the passage of time.
