Bodegas Tarón presents Patiens 2016, an immortal wine that follows the tradition of the historic white wines of Rioja Alta.

An immortal wine, made in the tradition of the historic white wines of Rioja Alta”. This is how Patiens 2016 is defined, the new white wine by Bodegas Tarón that will be released in the coming weeks and that aspires to position itself among the top ranges on the market. A limited edition wine of which only 1,300 bottles have been produced.
Patiens 2016, in its double meaning of patient and suffering, perfectly defines the eternal cycle in which the old Viura vines, planted in dry soil and exposed to the harsh climate of the Obarenes Mountains, give us a very limited production of very valuable clusters.
Patiens 2016 is a single varietal Viura obtained from small plots of vines aged between 50 and 90 years old, located in the Tarón area, in the winery’s surroundings. The vines are bush-trained and planted in clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 550 to 600 metres above sea level.
metres.
“Territorio Tarón, as the northernmost area of Rioja, has historically been a land of white wines.
Although in recent years the increase in temperatures has allowed us to make great red wines, we still have old Viura vines on the property that we want to showcase with this new wine”, explains Gonzalo Salazar de Gurendes, manager of Bodegas Tarón.
The grapes are harvested by hand, using environmentally friendly viticulture to produce quality wines. After this selection in the vineyard itself, the grapes are gently pressed and the first must is harvested naturally. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks. During
During the first year of ageing, the wine is aged on its own lees, remaining in barrels for a further three years. Once bottled, it rests for 6 months before being released on the market, giving it refinement and roundness.
At Patiens, we combine the tradition of viura cultivation with the longevity that barrel ageing gives to white wines, creating a wine that perfectly reflects the soul of these historic vineyards.
It has a bright straw yellow colour. The nose is subtle at first, but gradually develops elegant and complex aromas with notes of pastry, sweet spices and a slight herbal nuance. White fruit is also perceived, such as ripe pear and quince. It has a pleasant and smooth entry, maintaining a great harmony and exquisite acidity that envelops the mouth, making it fresh and long in the mouth.
