- Registration is still open for 25 euros, all of which will go to ASPACE Rioja.
The 4th Bodegas Tarón ‘Primer Vino’ Cycle Ride will bring together ten leading figures from the world of professional cycling and cycling enthusiasts on Saturday 31 October for a day combining cycling, charity and recognition of the winegrowers of the Tarón region.
The walk will start at 9.00 am, beginning and ending at Bodegas Tarón in Tirgo, and will cover a distance of 56 kilometres through various villages in the Rioja Alta region.
Once again this year, the event will have a strong charitable focus. In this fourth edition, all proceeds from the entry fees will go to ASPACE Rioja, an organisation that works to improve the quality of life of people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities, and their families.
Registration remains open via the RockTheSport platform.

Ten big names in cycling, four of whom are making their debut
The ‘Primer Vino’ Cycle Ride continues to build on one of its main attractions: the chance to ride alongside some of the great names in Spanish cycling in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere.
This year’s event will feature ten leading figures from the world of cycling, four of whom are taking part for the first time.
One of them is Abraham Olano, a two-time world champion and the first cyclist in history to win both the road race and individual time trial world titles. Joseba Beloki, who made it onto the Tour de France podium on three occasions, will also be making his debut.
Another major highlight will be the presence of Leire Olaberria, bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and a leading figure in Spanish women’s cycling.
Joining them will be Eduardo Chozas, a multiple stage winner in the Tour and the Giro, who will follow the route by car and take part in the tributes as a patron.
Alongside these new signings, six cyclists who have already experienced cycling through Territorio Tarón will be returning: Joane Somarriba, Marino Lejarreta, David López, Javier Pascual Llorente, Ramontxu González Arrieta and Juanjo Cobo.

A charity walk in aid of ASPACE Rioja
Solidarity will once again be one of the cornerstones of the First Wine Cycle Ride.
In this edition, all proceeds from the entry fees will go to ASPACE Rioja, an organisation that works to support people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities, as well as their families.
The initiative builds on Bodegas Tarón’s social commitment, which each year combines the running event with support for organisations and groups that carry out important work in our community.
At the 2025 event, around 200 participants took part in this charity day, which raised 5,630 euros, all of which went to ARDEM and ASBEM.

Homenaje a cuatro viticultores de Territorio Tarón
The ‘Primer Vino’ Cycle Ride will pay tribute to several winegrowers from the villages that make up Bodegas Tarón, in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to tending their vineyards.
Joseba Beloki, Abraham Olano, Leire Olaberria and Eduardo Chozas will be the patrons of these tributes. At each stop along the route, each of them will present a winegrower with a bottle of the first wine from their village’s new vintage.
In this fourth edition, the winegrowers to be honoured will be:
- María Luz García López, from Villaseca.
- Eduardo Riaño Martínez de Salinas, from Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón.
- José Antonio Ruiz García, de Tirgo.
- Rosa Mª Martínez de Salinas Gómez from Sajazarra.
With this award, Bodegas Tarón aims to put a face to the work that goes into every vineyard and every wine, highlighting the dedication of those who have kept the wine-growing culture of Rioja Alta alive.
La marcha coincide, además, con la llegada del primer vino de la nueva cosecha, un momento especialmente simbólico para la cooperativa y para las personas que trabajan sus viñedos durante todo el año.

In memory of Ángel Arroyo
The event will also pay special tribute to Ángel Arroyo, who passed away recently and who took part in the first edition of the Walk as the patron of one of the winegrowers being honoured.
Before the start, Bodegas Tarón will present race number 1 – reserved in his memory – to his close friend Remigio Yuste. Afterwards, those present will observe a minute’s silence in memory of the former cyclist.
A 56-kilometre route through the landscapes of Rioja Alta
The walk will cover 56 kilometres, starting and finishing at Bodegas Tarón in Tirgo. The route will pass through Sajazarra, Cellorigo, Villaseca, Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Ochánduri, Herramélluri, Villalobar de Rioja, Castañares de Rioja and Casalarreina, before returning via Tirgo to the winery.
Participants will cycle in a tightly-knit peloton, through autumnal vineyards and the villages of the Rioja Alta, with stops for tributes and refreshments. The climb to Cellorigo will be one of the highlights of the route.
A festival to celebrate cycling and the first wine of the season
After completing the route, the day will continue at Bodegas Tarón, where participants, cycling professionals, winegrowers and visitors will be able to enjoy a celebration featuring music and wine tastings.
It will be the grand finale to a day designed to share experiences, enjoy the local area and celebrate the arrival of the first wine from the new vintage.
