The presentation of a new wine is always a reason to rejoice, but the launch of the new Territorio Tarón is more than that. It is pride, tribute and homage. Because this 100% Tempranillo wine embodies the essence of our best vineyards and dedication to the winemaking tradition. A wine that reflects the character and uniqueness of the four villages: Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Sajazarra, Tirgo and Villaseca.

Each year, it will be made from a selection of the best vines over 35 years old, with low vigour and located on hillsides, with the aim of expressing the characteristics of the vintage in the wine and involving the best vineyards of the Tarón Territory.

The first Territorio Tarón has been made from the 2017 vintage, rated ‘Very Good’ by the DOCa Rioja Control Board. With a limited production of 34,325 bottles, Territorio Tarón is a true jewel of our winery, an invitation to enjoy the richness of our landscape and our passion for wine.

The Tempranillo vineyards used for its production are located on hillsides. There are three types of soils: calcareous-clay, boulders with deep and poor calcareous-clay subsoil; and sandy soils settled on sandstone rocks.

The grapes were harvested during the third and fourth week of September, in low-capacity trailers, ensuring that the grapes entered the winery in the best conditions. The wine was made in stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled fermentation. The wine was aged for 24 months in new American oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing for at least a year and a half before release.

Territorio Tarón 2017 has a cherry red colour with ruby glints. The nose is serious, elegant and complex, with notes of ripe fruit, vanilla and a subtle hint of liquorice. On the palate, it is powerful and meaty, with good structure and acidity, with present and round tannin, and a long and pleasant finish.

This wine is perfect to accompany red meats, stews and cured cheeses, and is best enjoyed at a temperature of 18ºC.

Territorio Tarón 2017 wine has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Mundus Vini 2024 Summer Tasting, one of the most important and internationally recognised wine competitions. The distinctions obtained in Mundus Vini are a guarantee of quality.
